No sound from my VCR with a scart multi adapter?
Hi there,
I recently got my hands on a multi scart adapter. It doesn't have switches to switch from one console to the other, it does it when one is switched on. At the moment I can get video from my VCR but with no sound, but when I turn on my ps2 at the same time the sound comes on but the video is obviously distorted as it's trying to show video from both items. Hope that makes sense and that someone can help. Cheers Tino. |
A couple of questions
What type of video is the PS2 trying to output? SCART supports RGB and composite. What brand of SCART switch? Many of the auto switching units have problems detecting video, or worse, back feeding the voltage sent on the "status" pin (pin 8 I think) into the other devices connected to the switch. Also test that the SCART cable from your VCR is passing audio at all by directly connecting it to the TV. Some cables cross the audio input/output pins by accident. |
all leads and cables are working fine, I realised that there is some sort of feedback from my ps2, as it doesn't have an off switch and is in stand by mode. If I unplug the power from the back of it the vcr works fine.

@NJRoadfan → Actually, the SCART interface also supports S-Video and even component signals (this on latter revisions of the 'standard').
The OP issue does seem a voltage/switching problem. Those "auto" selectors often have trouble with that. |
