Pinch roller loose on Panasonic NV-HS1000 (rebadged as Metz 9877)

2 Attachment(s)
My Metz 9877 (rebadged Panasonic NV-HS1000) has a loose pinch roller. It looks like there is something missing inside the roller that would allow it to grip the metal spindle.

The pinch roller assembly otherwise works fine, swivelling and lowering as expected. The tape is correctly positioned, and tape play can be activated, but automatically stops after a few seconds when the machine doesn't detect a signal (I assume because without the pinch roller the tape doesn't make contact with the control head).

In the attached photo you can see the pinch roller sitting atop the assembly. The video shows that the pinch roller assembly otherwise works fine.

Does anyone know what part I can use to make the pinch roller grip its spindle?

Hi, it comes with the roller when you buy a complete roller assembly. It's white nylon with a flat bit on the top to push it down. They split and drop off. Turn the VCR upside down and give it a shake. It will likely drop out. You can then glue it and push it back. Make sure you check for roller free movement as they don't go all the way down.

If you can't find it I may have a spare.

Thank you, Quasipal, for taking the time to respond to my message.

I have looked but can't find the sleeve anywhere in the unit, including when it's tipped upside down.

Your offer to look for a spare sleeve is very generous. I don't know where you're based. Please PM me if you have one handy.

Obviously I can replace the whole unit, but VXL2246 pinch roller units seem very expensive. As an alternative, I might be able to instead use the sleeve (and roller) from another pinch roller part, provided that unit's roller dimensions are identical (including its internal diameter). The VXL1858 and VXL1743 look to be two similar units, and I know where to source those new parts affordably.

Hi sorry for delay - been a bit busy.

Both VXL1858 and VXL1743 should be the same bushing size so either is fine - but the roller may not work if swapped.
