Hi , I want to thank everybody for their contributions on this website, you really helped me a lot with VHS capture and I've been able to organize a workflow that meets my needs.

I've already been able to capture most of my other VHS but this one VHS-C has this issue and I'd like to hear from you if it's fixable or the tape is definitively gone: now the tape plays fine for the first five minutes (segment 1) but after that it shows all these kind of distortions until the end of the tape (segments 2 and 3).

Have you ever met this kind of problem with a tape and managed to figure out what might have happened? and have you been able to fix it?

Thanks

That does look a little like the kind of effect you can get from playing a super-vhs recording in a normal vhs deck.

Yes, that's it! I was already looking on the web for ways to open it to try and change the shell or something, you made me save the tape and the headaches to try and figure out what problem it might have had.

Thank you so much!

Looks like they recorded in VHS the first five minutes and decided to switch to S-VHS for the remaining tape, Post a clip of the transition from good picture to bad picture to confirm this before you go and spend money on a S-VHS deck if you don't want to although capturing VHS tapes with a S-VHS deck yields better results than a normal VHS deck.

It was the only s-vhs-c of the lot, the distortion starts when there's a scene change, so is very probable the s-vhs mode was started later like you said. Since it's the only one of that kind I'll probably capture all the others and keep this one intact in case I'll meet anybody with a s vhs deck in the future but at least I won't damage it trying to fix it xD

Thanks everybody!
