My Panasonic DMR-ES10 that I've been using as a pass-thru for some Hi8 digitzing has up and died. Without doing much troubleshooting it's safe to assume it's the dreaded bad cap syndrome of these decks. I know they can be recapped, but I'm horrible at soldering, and am willing to outsource the work to someone trustworthy.

Have you opened the case to do a visual check whether or not you can see any obvious source of the problem, such as bulging, leaking, or ruptured capacitors or blown fuses?
