I hope this is the right category for this issue. I've been following the forum for a couple years now.

I was working through my betamax tapes and my beta player died. Being it was cheaper to buy another one than replace it, I got one locally from a trustworthy person.

Getting it all plugged in, however, it does not appear to be playing sound. (Not just capturing sound, but not playing sound because the Peak Level Meters are not lighting up at all)

I can hear no sound through the headphone jack either.

Is this a problem anyone has encountered before and does anyone have any suggestions?

For what it's worth, the picture coming from it looks great!

The unit is a Sony SL-HF300
