I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question. It looked the closest based on the description.

I would like to recap and align a Panasonic PV-8000 to get the best possible recordings. I would play the recordings back using an AG-1980P, unless that is unnecessary. I was hoping to find a service manual for the PV-8000, but haven't found one yet. It would be nice to have that when making the order for capacitors. The vidicon camera doesn't seem to produce a bad image. It would be a nightmare to disassemble. Does anyone think I need to open the camera at all?

I want to be able to make new recordings with the camera and VCR in order to get the unique video timbre of a vidicon camera. Just fun, not practical at all!

I have had no luck trying to find a service/repair manual for the PV-8000. Does anyone know if one exists?

Also, I have:

Tektronix TSG-170A - NTSC Television Generator - Test pattern generator
Tektronix VM700 - Video Measurement Set - Seems to check video signals
Various 100-200MHz Oscilliscopes, as well as a 500MHz unit...but no probes for it yet

Can I use these items to test my VCRs and determine if they NEED a capacitor replacement? From what I understand I could run an alignment tape in the VCR and use the VM700 to verify the amplitudes. I've never really used it. I inherited it from a business that was moving out of state.

It would be nice to know that I can skip the recap, at least on these portable VCRs.

On the subject of a master quality alignment tape, where should I buy one? I saw this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VHS-Beta-8m...IBf91kj4NBgpCw

And asked "I also curious how your calibration tapes were created. Are they new tape?"
And received "Manufacturer process not available. Item is used."

Sure looked otherwise! I'm not sure I want to spend $50 on a tape when it can't be explained how it was made!

That's not the best recorder, Use your AG1980 to make the recordings.
