External TBC Image Sharpening - Worth using?
2 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've been on here.
I do have a question regarding sharpening the VHS image quality using my external TBC. Sadly It's not a Datavideo or AV Toolbox TBC (I wish), but it's the Prime Image TBC/Freeze II, which there is a sharpening feature. My question is it worth using the sharpening feature while capping, using the HIGH setting? I understand sharpening a VHS image will result in jagged edges and white streaks, etc. I do have sample images in the attachments to compare the sharpness between OFF and HIGH. Let me know what you guys think! Thank you. EDIT: My VCR is a JVC SR-MV45 SVHS/DVD combo unit with the built-in TBC. The picture is set to AUTO and I have turned off the Digital R3 function. |
This is an aesthetic choice if you're doing it for personal use. I'm not keen on the sharpened image.

I would think not as it usually adds noise. I usually only use the proc amp controls on my TBC to fine tune the brightness/contrast levels, and even then that's only occasionally.
