Hello learned ones! I am about to embark on a VHS video conversion project and am trying to line up equipment.
I have ordered a JVC HR-S7800U for tape playback. I have on hand a Dazzle 100 DVC capture card which I have used in the past on other projects.
However, my understanding is that the Dazzle has a sub-par reputation here, so I am considering alternatives.
I have spent a fair amount of time looking through the site, but I am concerned about buying equipment based on recommendations which are several years old due to the update cycle of Windows 10.
So besides the Dazzle 100, what better capture cards are there that work with Windows 10?
Thank you for your help!

My Hauppauge USB-Live 2 works perfectly on Windows 10, with AmarecTV.

However, I don't know if its quality is better than your Dazzle 100 DVC (never compared directly or seen a comparison)

Thanks for the input lollo2.

I am actually going to add an addendum here, since I found a few interesting tidbits since I posted. I see drivers for the ATI 600 USB are readily available for Vista, which is a system I have available to me.
So I am considering using that system to capture the video, and then using my Windows 10 machine to do post processing of files, etc. if need be.

Never a Dazzle, those are low-end (just slightly better than an Easycap aka Easycrap).

Certain Hauppauge cards can work well, namely the "clone" version (using same as ATI 600 USB chipset). The Live2 model has mixed reviews, I'm neutral on it, not a suggested high-quality cards. It uses the Conexant chipsets, which are meh.

Certain Pinnacle cards are quite nice, ADI chipset.

So update on my situation, I decided that rather than mess with the issues of Windows 10 I would buy an ATI 600 and pull my Windows Vista PC out of retirement to act as the capture device.

However, I do have a question about the Dazzle and its flaws since I used that with Windows 10 previously. Is the fault of the Dazzle that it does all tapes poorly, or that it cannot handle lower quality sources well? The recording I did with it previously came from a relatively good camcorder source that is in much better shape than my VHS tapes and it seemed to handle it okay (to my relatively inexperienced eyes anyway). Wondering if I should re-do those with the new setup or not.

I've examined some of the complaints about cheap Dazzle devices and it seems to me using composite will not work well with them due to maybe having a bad comb filter separation in the chroma stage (you know cheap devices = cheap components). If you capture in S-Video chances are you will be fine.

I know my legacy Hauppage 850 and 950 usb dongles will not work with my W10x64builds 19041 and 42.
They both work in an older build.
I’m unsure of the root cause, the older build has a mobile ATI, the newer builds run Nvidia.
My Diamond works in everything.
And...the Diamond vc500 has only brightness and contrast in W10.
My Hauppages have fully functioning Proc amp, as well as cropping, though I’ve never actually used the crop.
Video is fun!
