What does the "VCR Input" function do during capture?

I've searched many times for a description of what the VHS Input does during capture. The function is under Video, Capture Filter, Video Decoder while in capture mode. Any ideas? The function is always available for my captures. Sanlyn's guide shows the function greyed out in his setup and no description of what it does.
