Advice: Can I fix this capture from JVC SR-MV45?

5 Attachment(s)
Of 50 almost-perfect captures to-date, only this one "flickers" (sorry; I don't know the technical term). I attached a couple of stills and a short clip.

Playing the tape on a Zenith XBV342 (DVD combo unit) via composite to a TV actually looks pretty good. I attached one still.

Is this fixable with the JVC? It has some kind of auto-tracking setting--should that be on or off? Any other settings?

I’ll eventually try a cap from the Zenith, but it doesn't have S-video out and I don't want to pull it all apart in the middle of the project--it was such a bear to get it working with Win10 in the first place.
Workflow, all from LordSmurf:
  • JVC SR-MV45
  • Frame TBC (ComWorld something; image attached)
  • Pinnacle 710 USB
  • Win10

I'm wondering if this is one of those times when the external frame TBC does more harm than good.

Thanks.

Does that happen commonly? Most of the time I've spent on this has been getting the capture going, so I haven't visited this part of the forum much.

Rarely. TBC almost always helps. Almost.

It may be line.
Or frame.
Or both.
Or even just the VCR outputting signal the TBCs hate.

It can be tedious to track down. Something causes it. Don't knee-jerk react, place blame, without verification.

The ultimate issue is the tape. Now the task is finding the gear combo that will make it behave.

Thanks, LS. Hope all is well for you and your loved ones down yonder.

We're getting to the last of this batch of tapes so I'll try some A/B tests.

I had one prior tape that looked similar (and posted here for advice), but it turned out to be a copy of a master that we eventually found, so that bullet was dodged. We'll have no such luck on this one, I'm afraid.

I assume the external TBC can't weave S-video from composite; hope my composite cables are up to the task.

My first thought is if the problem appeared after playing that many tapes, how clean is the VCR's tape path now?
