Polaroid DRM2001Q will not record?

I have a Polaroid DRM 2001g dvr. It was working okay since I got it. Its known for some flaws that I know. But I never had much of a problem recording from HDD to DISC. I mainly record my tv show to HDD then after I segment and watch them I record them to disc. I usually can fit 5 shows to one disc. Yesterday the unit will only record 2 of the 5 shows to disc. I tried another +R disc and again same results. So I grabbed a RW disc and tired that with same results. I have another polaroid unit so I swapped the HDD to that unit. Again same results.
Im at my wits end on what else to try to figure out what happened to it and why it wont record the 5 shows. I also tried recording another segmented show onto the same discs, +R and RW and it wont record anymore.
Initially I thought maybe the dvd burner went but after swapping to a different unit I know believe its something else.

Anyone have any ideas?

My guess would have been the drive. Are you 100% sure the replacement you tested was also good?

I believe youre correct. I have been only able to watch the shows from the HDD. When I try to record from HDD to Disc it will only do it sometimes. It seems when I try 5 half hour shows to one disc it gets confused and stops. I was able to get 4 shows but the 4th show had only 15 seconds on the disc.

Also I noticed upon playback of watching the shows I am getting pixelation and one time I saw a small gray box pop up. It has to be the drive going bad?

I am going to install the other HDD I have for it & do some more testing on it.

Is there anyway I can transfer these shows over to the replacement HDD?
