Camcorder audio cable connections?

1 Attachment(s)
Do I need a AV In/Out Phones Cable to connect my Camcorder to vhs player for audio when capturing vhs footage via passthru as one never came with the camocorder, is it specific to each camcorder model as i have no clue what to get.

Ive included a photo in the attached file so you know what im talking about.

thanks

It looks like the connector carries both video and stereo audio, requiring a lead with yellow, white and red ended rca plugs at the opposite end. The 3.5mm jack plug will have four separate metal sections on it. But if yours is a mini DV camera its far better to use the DV connector. It may be only accessible with the screen swung out.

What is the model of your camcorder?

Thanks for the quick response

camcorder is called NVGX7 and VCR is NVHS960 I also have a DMRES15 but dont know how to use that, i assume i connect the Svideo cable to both then i need a connect AV in/out phone cable to both, then i connect the DV out of camcorder to the Firewire on the laptop and use the camcorder as a passtru, just need a AV In Out phones cable.

would the one in photo attached be good, or would i be better buying a high quality one, i suppose i dont need to connect the yellow connector to vcr as im not needing video through compostie

would capture quality be good this way, or can i try a different connection/method, i dont own a desktop computer

thanks

That cable should do the job.

Don't use the yellow RCA plug.

It all sounds OK; you're lucky you have a Firewire port!

If you have a wobbly or tearing picture, the ES15 will correct some of that; place it between the VCR and the camcorder, using S-video cables. If you use the ES-15, I'm not sure whether you should also route the audio through the ES-15. I don't; I just take the audio straight from the VCR to the capture device (in your case your camcorder).

The other workflow is VCR>USB Capture Card/Stick/Box>Laptop. The ES15 would sit between the VCR and the capture device. Whether that would result in a better result is the big question. That route is more complicated than using your camera as a passthrough.
