SECAM to PAL signal conversion - which converter to choose
 

Hello,
As in the topic, I have a dilemma which signal handler will be better for working with VCRs:
- Panasonic Nv-HS1000
- Panasonic Nc-HS930
- Sharp VC-S2000

All of the above VCRs have a built-in TBC. In addition, I have an external Datavideo TBC-1000.

Everything was fine until SECAM tapes appeared in my workshop. I need a converter that I will connect directly behind the VCR and in front of the Datavideo TBC-1000.

I can choose from:
- INTERNATIONAL KDV-5000 VIDEO CONVERTER

or

- Com World CMD-1700 Professional PAL NTSC SECAM Video Converter

What do you think about the quality and capabilities of both devices? They will be grateful for your help in choosing the right SECAM -> PAL signal converter.

Use none, Try capturing in SECAM without an external TBC first and see if you have any timing issues. SECAM chroma will deteriorate when converted to another standard. Again unless you have problems like frame roll, audio out of sync, frame flashes ..., the external TBC should no have any effect on the quality of the video just frame timing.

This is the point that, unfortunately, when capturing a video signal without TBC, I lose frames and the sound and the image get out of sync

Some people have success using a DVD recorder as stabilizer, There are ones that are compatible with SECAM.

Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the high-quality reproduction image I get from the following VCRs:
- Panasonic NV-HS1000
- Panasonic NV-HS930
- Sharp VC-S2000
Together with the TBC-1000 it is perfect (but unfortunately for PAL / NTSC).

For SECAM I chose an intermediate solution in the form of the Samsung SV-3000W World Wide Video Multi System VCR - the VCR plays the SECAM cassette as it was recorded, but the output signal converts to PAL. Then the TBC-1000 takes care of the synchronization etc.
Nevertheless, the image quality in my opinion is definitely better directly from SHARP or PANASONIC VCRs above. which I have. Well, unless I'm wrong and the tapes recorded in SECAM are of lower quality (even colors) than those recorded in PAL.

Those international conversion VCR's like the Samsung are crap, No S-Video, no TBC. Just use your current VCR. Again a DVD recorder can act like a frame TBC without converting to PAL, Professional standard converters are very expensive like the Snell & Wilcox, consumer ones are crappy.
