Hi,

Source: 8mm analog tape PAL(europe)
Capture: DV-avi from digital8 camcorder

Please can you help my with simple script for restoration thic capture?

I have used so far only QTGMC(faster) + mdegrain for denoise.
Most of the recording is fine, but this scene is poor.

Thank you

The whites are blown, so color is lost or tinted in bright areas. The blacks are also crushed, so detail is lost in dark areas:

"Min" should be >16, and "Max" should be <235 for a good capture. There should not be any white on the vertical orange lines inside the box, and both sides of the histogram should taper to 0 before it reaches the vertical lines.

If you capture through analog and set your histogram correctly at capture time, it may be possible to recover some of the lost color and detail.

I see a well distributed histogram. The crush/clip occurs at Y=0 and Y=255.

For a good capture "Min" should be the minimum Y value the card can capture, and "Max" the maximum Y value the card can capture.

For this sequence I see tape dropouts, comets and noise across frames. A temporal denoise, eventually with Despot or RemoveDirtMC, may mitigate the problem.

This is a folly of using D8 passthrough cameras on Hi8/Video8 tapes. It crushes and ruins quality.

Some D8 and miniDV camcorders from back in the day had poor ADC implementation in passthrough mode, The feature was just a convenient way of viewing old tapes, it's not meant to make perfect copies of those analog tapes. A dedicated capture device must be used if quality is important.

@ROBO999, was that tape captured using WinDV or Scenealyzer? If you are using Firewire, I'd be using one of those to capture.
