When capturing a video, should the volume on the computer speakers be turned low? If so, how low?

The speakers have no effect (or affect) on the audio capture itself. What the speakers do is let you listen to the audio. So I would turn them up just a bit louder than normal, to hear the audio clearly AND to hear what hiss/noise may be on the tape.
