Optimal resolution for DV and still photo cameras ?

Is there optimal resolution for miniDV camcorders and digital cameras when my ouput is DVD mpeg2. I understan that mpeg2 limit is 720x480 and above 8000k bit rate per sec dosn't produce any gain. Does this applay to the digiatl equipment source as well?

DV is 720x480, cannot be changed.

Your final encoded MPEG resolution depends on the source resolution.

If the source was VHS, for example, 352x480 is optimal.
If the source was DV shot on the camera, then 720x480 should probably be maintained.

The answer changes case by case.
