HDTV DVD recorders? Looking for positive reviews...

Has anyone had experience with or read positive reviews about DVD recorders that have tuners compatible with HDTV signals (either via cable or satellite?) My HDTV doesn't have a video output signal. A sales rep at DirectTV said their DVD recorder (which only stores to hard drive but doesn't burn discs) has a video output signal which could then go to the DVD recorder.

Just curious how people are dealing with these tech issues.
