JVC HR-S9800U for PAL system? Any converter from NTSC to PAL?
Quote:
The JVC HR-S9800 is an NTSC VCR. It will not play PAL tapes correctly. If you have NTSC tapes, and what to make NTSC DVDs, then this is an excellent VCR. To play/record PAL VHS tapes, look at a PAL model VCR. For example, the JVC HR-S8965EK, 7965EK or the SR-V10E. Those are all European PAL model VCRs (also sold/used in Australia). Excellent VCR for converting PAL tapes to PAL DVDs. In North America, there are some "worldwide" converting VCRs, such as the Panasonic AG-W2, W3 and W4. Those are mostly just clones of the Samsung 5000W and 7000W. You can play PAL, NTSC or SECAM tapes, and output to the various PALs, SECAMs and NTSCs that exist. These are VHS VCRs, however, with no frills or quality-enhancing features. You're best to use several separate S-VHS VCRs for top quality output. Of course, you can't convert the signal with the S-VHS VCRs. In general, I suggest leaving PAL as PAL (SECAM as PAL), NTSC as NTSC, and not converting to something else for the DVD. All PAL DVD players can all play NTSC DVDs, and most NTSC players can play PAL DVDs (due to being cheap Chinese players made for worldwide consumption). More VCR suggestions can be found at: VCR Buying Guide (S-VHS, D-VHS, Professional) Hope that helps. :)
