I'm in the UK and need to purchase a second hand dvd recorder purely for recording my wife's American ntsc videos (some pre-recorded) onto DVD for her.

Having recently done a bit of internet research on the topic, I have come to the conclusion that my best chance of success is to connect an early model of the Liteone LVW 5000 series to a multi-region VCR (we have one that successfully plays the NTSC videos in colour). I have chosen Liteone because the early PAL models were NTSC compatible via the input menu, so all I have to do now is to select which model (5001, 5002, 5004, 5005 or 5006) I want to purchase.

I am well aware of the risks involved as there were quite a lot of duff machines doing the rounds when they first came out, but I am hopeful of success if only because if they haven't packed up by now, then the chances are they are one of the reliable ones.

I know that I may also have to do some hacking to get some of the problems rectified, which is how I came to find this site. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could offer advice on which (generally speaking) has proved to be the most reliable of the LVW 5000 series, in order to increase my chances of success. Also, are there any other models that I might consider which were before Liteone disabled the NTSC input menu option?
