probably not good for capturing - it isnt even a S-VHS
as far as i know any Sony SLV with a number under 1000 wont be a Super.
i would stick with JVC or Panasonic

I've had a good experience with my SLV-679HF. Not the best, no TBC, and really only good for casual converting and viewing (not for professional or extremely important stuff). Tracking's OK on it, but it has the annoying feature of having a tracking display come up whenever you adjust the tracking. I'd say if the price is OK (assuming you're being offered the VCR), go for it. It might come in handy for certain projects.

Suggested VCRs for VHS/S-VHS conversion are listed here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...ing-guide.html
We don't recommend anything not mentioned on that list.

A list of Video8 / Hi8 (Sony 8mm tape based formats) is in the works, and will be appended to that page in due time.
Same for Betamax and U-matic.
