people,

just bought a 9800 all-in-wonder. everything seems to be fine, except the s-video. this gives a black & white image.

i'm searching the net to find a solution, but thought i'd ask the good people on this forum for a solution.

over to you-hoo....

The cable may be bad, or you may have crossover somewhere, meaning you jumped from composite or coax to s-video, somewhere along the video signal path, which doesn't always work.

ta lordsmurf.

my connection is as follows :
scart to s-video + l&r audio into the cable provided by ati which takes these to the video in of the 9800 aiw card.

have checked for bent pins, but could not see any.

so ... as you suggest it could be a bad cable. am trying to find another cable similar to that provided by ati that takes svideo + l&r audio to a 8 pin din.

will let you know once i get such a cable.

SCART to s-video requires a special converter to retain color. Very common problem, seen it discussed all over the net in the past. You have to find an SCART/s-video adapter that is made for color retention.

just my luck eh LS?

another quick question if you don't mind -> is the quality of the images/video much better from scart to s-video or much of a muchness with that of scart to composite (video + l&r phono) connection?

cheers

It can be. But not necessarily.

lordsmurf, thanks very much for all your help. i finally solved the riddle of the b&w images. i have 2 scart connections on the back of my digibox. one states "AUX" and the other "TV".

for whatever reason, the auxiliary one does NOT ouput colour. the TV one does. don't ask me why as the equipment did not have a detailed manual/spec sheet.

anyway, i've got the colour output and i'm pretty happy with the results.

once again thanks for your help. long may you be king of the smurfs!
