if anyone needs a TBC there are 3 Keywest BVTBC10's that just poped up on ebay cheap:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KEYWEST-Big-...item1c30dc8359

i have one of these units and have been pleased with it
it is a 10-bit TBC - does both NTSC and PAL
it defeats macrovision and has on onboard proc-amp
i have the manual if someone needs it:

Looks like there are only 2 on EBay right now.

What's so good about these? How do you like it?

Is the Proc-Amp useful? How would you rate it compared to say the gold standard Datavideo TBC-1000?

Does it do component? Just S-Video?

someone bought one - they will probably go fast.
yes they have S-video
having never used a TBC-1000 i cant give you an answer.
but im not sure the 1000 is the gold standard as some units require mods.
the TBC-100 PCI card is probably more of a gold standard, but they are very hard to find

Yeah it seems they may go fast, which is why I should decided if I should buy one.

Well, we know the TBC-1000 is 8bit processing whereas this one is truly 10 bit processing. So I would consider that a plus. I'm not sure why you would need to mod a Datavideo TBC-1000 though? They should just work right out of the box.

I see this one doesn't have power supply. Just pick up a regulated 5 volt power supply?

This one comes with a db9 Adapter. My assumption is you don't need to use the adapter though? I should be able to control this TBC fully from the front panel?

Looking it up...I only heard something about their being noise in dark blacks. Sounds almost like if you can see white streaks randomly appear. My guess this is not your experience with this TBC? Overall, the picture quality was good?

Seems also like it has more control then the TBC-1000....proc amp controls. That's a plus too I think.

Ahhhh, that's where I must have read that. Yes, it says "May have random pixel noise in video signal" for the following models: BVTBC/8/10. I'm not sure how up-to-date this is? It says it's a RISK to buying one.

I wonder what the BNC connectors are for. It would be great if it did component too to give more flexability!

i have not observed any pixel noise on the 10
i read on Videohelp somebody did get the noise on the original BVTBC

the BNC are composite - just use BNC to RCA adapters

Well thanks to you, I probably will buy one I'm going to continue reading about this today! I've been looking around...there isn't all that much info on it. There are specs, manuals, but not much in the way of users of the TBC saying it's great.

But, it honestly sounds like a great TBC to have for those who use S-Video cables. If anything, for price, it will allow me to see if it works comparably or better to the TBC-1000.

If you see me talking about in the future (having and owning it), I owe it all to you! Thanks for posting this thread!

it is not a widely known TBC
but for those that want a decent modern TBC without spending $400 it is a good option.
i routinely search TBC's on ebay and saw these today.
if they where $50 i would have bought all 3.
but at $100 and already having one i figured some forum members would like them.

i have the OEM AC adapter with mine
it is labeled Group West model AUT-05-1600
output is 5v 1600ma

All TBCs have potential issues. Hopefully it won't happen to you -- but if it does, that's what it is.
I've seen this one go both ways. Gamble $100 on it -- I did.

I don't think it's better than the TBC-100 or TBC-1000, no. Maybe it can give the AVT-8710 a run for it's money, but not the DataVideos.

The Voo Doo TBC on eBay is crap!

I purchased one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KEYWEST-Big-...item1c30dc8359

I feel bad for the other poor soul who purchased one from phonoking6807 . With 657 people who have purchased and 100% feedback, I thought I would give it a go for $100.

So me and someone else are out 100$ each. And, the sad part is there is a no return policy!

If anyone wants to buy crap on eBay, there is still one BVTBC10 left on eBay to buy. My advice, buyer beware!

I've attached a few frames of video captured from the TBC. You can see streaks going through the color bars. Take note that the color bars are from the TBC itself. You can turn them on/off.

Captured with my ATI USB 600 2.0 and VirtualDub.

Run some video thru it before writing it off. Otherwise, you are covered by ebay's buyer protection plan. If you aren't satisfied, contact the seller and open up a case.

the seller obviously didnt test them as he didnt have the AC adapters.
confirm it is bad as NJroadfan suggested, then contact the seller.
he still has 1 more, so maybe he'll send you a replacement.
if not file an ebay case.
item was listed as "used" which means working condition

Your anger is based solely on the impurity of the color bar generator? Yikes.

The units have quite a bit of interference. We had one, and I've since confirmed others have this issue too. It's likely why you see them on eBay so cheaply. As is the case with the AVT-8710, and the TBC-100 to a much lesser extent, these units are variable. Some have manufacturing defects.

TBC-1000 = can be soft
AVT-8710 = can have signal flaws (brightness, TBC ineffective, etc)
BVTBC = can have noise in signal
