Black Magic Design H.264 capture card to record movies?

I came across this H.264 recorder from BlackMagicDesign, which I think I can use for capturing movies from Satellite box (standard definition via S-Video) and then edit out commercials later.

How good is it?

My current method of capturing via Canopus ADVC-110, editing, encoding to DVD is taking too much of time.

I beleive this BMD device does encoding in hardware while capturing. Are there any limitations it might pose? I plan to watch final H.264 movies using a media player connected to the TV. Not much on mobile devices.

Regards

I read somewhere that this product only works on a Mac??? In that case it is useless to me because I use Windows.

The manual contains instructions to install on Windows.

Note that your cable box probably adds Macrovision copy protection to some channels. The BlackMagic device will not record those channels.

The manual implies additional limitations, and shows that it is aimed at mobile devices and YouTube sharing. It appears that the device can't encode interlaced video; only deinterlaced progressive.

Thanks msgohan. Yeah, it appears a lot of restrictions...My current Canopus ignores Macrovision if I keep the Analog/Digital button pressed for 5-6 seconds.

The BMD product has a lot of bad reviews on Amazon.
