Lordsmurf,
Is there a way to capture a VHS tape that is encoded with macrovision?
I have read this is a hardware/software issue.
Would I need a special VCR to decode this, or is there a software program that would allow me to overwrite the macrovision?
Thank you for your time.

What kind of capture card, software, and VCR are you dealing with currently?

You can try the ATI hacks on the ATI guides on digitalFAQ.com, but it may or may not work. Cross your fingers.

Only other option is a MV-removal device (not always reliable) or a full TBC (time base corrector).

Seeing the PLAYBACK SUGGESTIONS capture guide on the site for info on TBC's.

I have the ATI AIW 9600 and could not get the macro hacks to work. The green screen was the first problem and the hack worked, but then there was the light/dark problem. I gave up on the hacks and bought the Clarifier from www.facetvideo.com and that was not perfect either. I ended up with a white bar across the top and once in a while I got the light/dark macrovision. I returned it and just bought the Datavideo TBC-1000. Everything is working fine! Really good captures with good quality.
