Recommended capture card with component inputs?

Please recommend a capture card with component inputs that works with VirtualDub capturing with Huffyuv and without AGC (fixed or manual gain).

The only one I'm aware of are the Blackmagic cards. Those have component, I believe.

Why do you need this? Component capturing isn't very popular. You want either s-video or HDMI in most all cases.

If you only need SD resolutions, there is a generic $20 YPbPr/composite device called the Supercap that uses the same Conexant Polaris ADC as the Diamond VC500. The description claims it does S-Video as well but the front of the box doesn't say so, and if it does you would need an adapter cable. Available from random Chinese electronics websites; for some reason the only listing on eBay is double the price.

Perhaps contact the poster of the video via the Contactez-Moi link on his forum and ask if he can share a lossless sample since that's what he captures to now.

Supposedly there's another device with that ADC that includes all three inputs for the same price, but the website may be shipping different devices with the same SKU since they incorrectly included eMPIA drivers with a Conexant device: http://club.dx.com/forums/forums.dx/...1288095?page=1

ive never used one and dont know if it works in V-Dub

Doesn't do lossless or work in VirtualDub; hardware encoding only.

But Blackmagic's don't work with VirtualDub. They are only for MACs. I tried component capture with Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle using Panasonic DMR-ES25 as a middleman. Quality was outstanding, but the only problem was unreported dropped frames.

HDMI would be an option, but then I will need a DVD Recorder as a pass-through that is able to output HDMI at SD 480i.

What's wrong with the reverse-deinterlace I mentioned? The real problem is the inability to recover levels if either the DVD recorder or HDMI capture card clamps values to 16-235. And even if they don't clamp, that still only leaves you with a 5.8% adjustment below and 7.8% adjustment above to play in.

From what I've read the Intensity Pro does work in VirtualDub on PC, though plenty of people have had problems with HD capture.

Uhm, BMs work with Windows and Mac both. No problems with VirtualDub.

edit: PCI-express based Studio -line doesn't cost much more than USB. I would recommend going that route if USB causes problems.

Which version of BM (USB) works with VDub? I had Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt and did capture on Mac with Media Express. This caused problems. But can you recommend the USB model of BM that works with VDub? Is gain fixed?

AFAIK they all work. I haven't tested USB myself but read on people using BM with VirtualDub elsewhere. If USB causes problems, one more reason to go for PCI-E. There's been many reported and known problems with BM USB and certain USB chipsets which is unfortunate but doesn't mean Windows is not supported.

I was mainly talking about the Intensity Shuttle http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity

I don't know about Video Recorder, it's a new product to me. H.264 capture seems very limiting.

Shuttle should work with VirtualDub but I don't make 100% promises. We need someone with Shuttle to confirm this. And I don't know anything about gain problems.

Ok, I see. So then Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0. I only have laptop with USB 2.0 so this wouldn't work. I will see what I can do.
