Can play my test mpg files created by mmc 9.02 with O!Play, but cannot open them with PowerDVD 11/12, VLC, mpc-hc, VideoReDo, WMC. Figure this is a codec issue. Test mpg files created by cmc are fine everywhere. So, question is, change codec in mmc or find & add codec to Win7/8? If I add codec, worried next generation o/s may not be supported.

Surprised that quick look at beginning couple of min of mpg tests using mmc 9.02 (AIW) no soap, mmc 9.02 (AIW) heavy soap + despeckle, cmc (550), and cmc (650) all look same. What a way to spend the holidays

Given all your issue thus far on that system, it has a codec issue of some kind. (That includes a lack of codecs, or lack of good/proper codecs.)

VLC has an internal codec library, and does not rely on the Windows system codecs. Something with ffpeg may be knackered.

Windows 7 should have native MPEG support.
Not sure about Windows 8 -- I think the greedy SOBs tried to charge for that!

Sorry, I should have posted that this problem has magically disappeared. Posted over at videohelp and received request for posted samples. When I did them, didn't find a problem. Looked at the originals and now they worked. Dunno what the problem was - maybe loose cable? Guess will remain a mystery.
