I've run into an issue when capturing video from VHS using Catalyst Media Center and my ATI 600 USB device. I'll hit record, let it run for the duration of the video (anywhere between 15 minutes to 2 hours). When I hit stop and look at the file that was saved, it only saves ~200MB worth of data. When I go to play the .mpeg, only the last 7-10 minutes plays. It seems like the first portion has just been truncated.

I have tried recording to two different hard drives: 930GB on one HD, 1.8TB on another - plentry of space to save the resulting file. Is there a temp file that is maxing out at 2GB or something that I need to clear? This is a recent issue. Several weeks ago I was able to create 3GB and higher .mpeg files. The only thing I can think of that I've messed with in the past few weeks was playing with and setting recordings for Windows Media Center, but that's not active when I capture from the Catalyst Media Center.

Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Here are my stats:

What happens when you use VirtualDub?
In other words, let's see if the card or drivers have issues, or just CMC.

Thanks for the reply lordsmurf - it unblocked my brain! When I attempted to capture in VirtualDub, I could only see a black image and the blue screen I would expect to see when connected with the VHS player wasn't there. Assuming that the problem lied in the drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled.

I can now record any length of video without it removing the beginning portion.

Thanks as always for this service!

I love it when a process of elimination works as desired.

Excellent! Happy capturing!
