Hi, I've got an offer for a new, unopened Samsung dvd-R125, 120 dollars. I see that it does not have S-video input, only RGB trough scart and composite. I have a S9500 S-vcr, which looks like it has RGB output.

I'm only doing PAL if that matters.

Do you think i should get it? or should i rather go for a DVD-recorder with S-video input?

What makes me wanting it, is that its unopened. not that often to come across, right? And the LSI chipset there, does the same job as in a DR-MH10, right?

With Regards

Knut

R125 --
Input AV2 (scart EXT) Video : Composite, RGB Audio: analogue
And DV input, other inputs are all composite.

s9500 --
In/out : 21-pins SCART-kontakt:
IN/OUT x 1,
IN/DECODER x 1
RCA-kontakt:
VIDEO IN x 1, AUDIO IN x 1,
AUDIO OUT x 1
S-Video-kontakt:
IN x 1, OUT x 1

There is a switch on the back of the vcr that says "AV1 out" above it and "COMP. Y/C" below it.

Is it possible for me to transfer video from the vcr to that dvd-recorder with better than composite quality?

And then transfer it with S-video from the dvd-recorder to the computer? Or does S-video and component go badly together? Will i have some color distortions?

Why wouldnt samsung make it with S-video In, since it has S-video out. very strange for me.

This model Samsung is an LSI Logic chipset unit.

That list is here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...c-chipset.html

Granted, it's not as good as the JVC -- no other LSI is! -- but the Samsung is pretty good. We have one of the NTSC LSI Samsung models

Just be aware than it does not have a 3-hour mode. At least ours does not. You can pick 1-hour/XP or 2-hour/SP at 720x480. Or the 4-hour at 352x480. It's fine for the XP with any VHS source. The SP is good on some more-compressable sources. The 4-hour 352x480 is best for animation, and certain kinds of more-compressable content like SP. As a toon collector, most of my early use of LSI Logic chipset were for 4-hour VHS cartoon conversions. And they still look fine, even one large screens to this day.

I've already declined to buy it because of the lack of s-video input.

I have a dr-m10 on the way, used maybe just a little or used a lot, ebay bought. So, hope that one works out good.

Hmmm... interesting. The NTSC recorder here has s-video. Must be a PAL thing.
