Hello,

I just bought a JVC 9600EU and wanted to test the playback on a TV before I started capturing.

The odd thing is that I get a Black and white picture when playing back via the TV not color?

It's connected from JVC -> S-VHS -> Scart s-vhs in -> TV

Is it the scart that's somehow irritating the setup?

It's the scart. Try with s-video to the capture setup. For now, ignore the TV.

You probably don’t have the same standard selected on both VCR and TV for the output , input you are using.

On the VCR back there is a switch with 2 positions composite / svideo confirm that svideo is selected.

Go to the TV menu and confirm the video input that you are using to connect the VCR as svideo selected ( usually there are 3 options video, svideo ,RGB as scart can transport any of them). If scart VCR output is selected to svideo (or you are using a svideo-scart cable)and TV scart video input is also selected to svideo you should be viewing colors from your tapes if not you may have other problem.
If you don’t have the JVC manual try to google you will find it
