Every movie I record with my JVC Dr-M100 gets squeezed horizontally by VLC. I know I can get the correct aspect ratio by manually selecting "4:3" in VLC, but how can I get VLC to read it correctly by default? Note: I'm not looking to change the settings in VLC, as it would still reproduce the problem on other people's computers.
It's not that big of a deal for me personally, but I know people who just assume the entire DVD is out of whack, or even worse, watch the entire movie with that squeezed aspect ratio!
I think that VH thread is mostly about conversion. I quickly glanced at it, saw nothing helpful to this topic.
VLC does what it wants -- AND it changes all the time. VLC has pissed me off so much in recent years that I rarely use it now. Media Player Classic (MPC) is far more accurate. It's just the way it goes. To me, it's not much different from Windows getting to be a coding abortion more than a useful OS. Some programs get better with time, some get worse. VLC is worse.
