I have the ATI AIW 9600XT.

Is anyone awarae of any software that would allow you to capture a TV program directly to DVD-R/RW instead of having to first write the TV program to the hard drive?

No.

The only one that ever existsed was unreliable and sort of disappeared from the market. General computer hardware is not complex enough for this.

This is a good reason to get a DVD recorder. I have two myself. These use special hardware setups to achieve this.

FYI, if you do get a recorder in the future, avoid Panasonic, Sony, Apex, Cyberhome, Memorex and Philips.

Look at JVC, Pioneer and LiteOn models.

Sanyo is also decent.

I'm planning to open a DVD recorder review section when I get more free time to develop the site further.
