Hi,

I need to capture in electronic format a lot of VHS tapes in NTSC. Thus, I am looking for the best way to do it and I began with the recorder.

JVC 'U' type (NTSC system) are normally difficult to buy and for me it is even more difficult because I live in Europe with domination of PAL system. My attention got the JVC HR-S 9600 E which as I understand is PAL/SECAM video. The seller says however that I can play NTSC on this video. So, the question is whether to buy this video or shall I look for a 'pure' NTSC - for example JVC HR-S 9600U to get most out of the old tapes?

Hi

It plays NTSC well but your capture will be in B&W. You'll have to get a 9600U or something similar.

Hallo.Ich had 4 of these JVC HR-S9600, now only a model 9600th
NTSC I have never played on this recorder on my plasma.
For that I have right NTSC recorder.
I suspect that this S9600 it passes only in PAL 60 on the TV.
In Europe, most TV PAL and NTSC can recognize.

Usually one needs several recorder has to be found the best.
So the best picture and the best sound outputs.
That's why we prof.Digitalisierer also dozens of recorders and other devices still needed

today it is so more and more customers can digitize the films and then cut these films himself and re-encode.

Thanks for very valuable information
I can see that HR-S9500U is not bold in the lordsmurf list but I guess I do not risk too much buying it?

Yes, Lord Smurf list is not exhaustive.
For PAL here we have a larger list.
Yes, I would try with the JVC HR-S9500U.
But since the "Stabilizer" off and put on "Edit".
But Depends on with what you then filters. [Avisynth]
