ATI AIW list of cards complete? x800 cards good?
 

Of the X800 series your list mentions only ALL-IN-WONDER X800 XL. Is there any reason GT and XT is not included? I was just reading a review of the GT and it said it had the Theater 200 chip.
Also wondering why not just use something like the Theater 550 Pro? Is it not better quality?

I no longer have my old agp mobo so I would have to use a pci-x AIW. Can I use this with my current system as long as all my components have winxp drivers?

There's no reason that other x800 cards were not listed. Those are fine, too.

The 550 cards are not better, no. Different chipsets and software is involved.

Just remember that Windows XP is required. So a build specifically for capture is ideal. Get a good dual-core, quad-core, or even single-core, using AGP, PCIe or PCI ATI AIW cards. Save modern editing/web/etc for a new Win7+ build.

Thanks for the swift reply. I was thinking rather than setting up a separate system I'd just swap out my graphics card for an AIW and install windows xp with dual boot.
Only issue I can see is that windows xp can't handle 8gb ram, but I could just pull a stick out for when I need to capture.

geforce 970

XP will just ignore it. No need to remove the stick.

Some choose to dual-boot a system, but that's often a quagmire. A separate build is easier. For one, it doesn't tie up your best system.

I might use my "media" pc for the task instead. This won't be a permanent setup anyway as main task will be transferring my family's vhs-c tapes.
