Hauppauge video capture is lossless?

I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 card which I am using with VCR to capture VHS. I want to make sure it is capping losslessly and not encoding at all. VVCR gives these stats post-capture:

There is no way to capture lossless YUY2 (4:2:2) with this card. The driver outputs uncompressed 4:2:0 in a proprietary pixel format, which is then upsampled to 4:2:2 in the background. A tool was released to convert the proprietary format into regular YV12, if you bypass Hauppauge's own converter.

what card should I buy to replace it? I just happened to have it laying around.

The Hauppauge PVR-150 is an MPEG hardware capture card (4:2:0), and a flawed one at that. The 250 and 350 were far better, if you wanted an MPEG capture card.

msgohan is accurate.

An ATI AIW system based on WinXP, is better. And suggested.
If you want Win Vista/7/8/10 capable cards, then your options are fewer, but something like the ATI 600 would work.

Hmmm.... time for a new sticky.

I have 32bit XP and open PCI/PCIE slots. I will throw the Huappauge in the garbage where it belongs.

ATI Wonder 550 is this a good card?

The major issue with the 150 was illegal IRE and audio distortion. It simply f'd up video in a major way. This wasn't an error that affected every card, just most of them (90%+). They must have replaced a chip on the board early on, after initial production. I actually have one of the few that didn't suffer this fate.

USB vs. PCI doesn't matter as much as the quality hardware.
