Video8 tape damage? Can it be repaired?
2 Attachment(s)
I have a collection of Video 8 tapes that I'm transferring to dvd for a friend unfortunately several of these tapes are physically damaged, the tapes look creased and the resulting playback results in lines rolling across the screen affecting both sound and vision. Now my question is can I get these repaired? I have attached a picture of the tape damage.

No, it cannot be repaired.
Some experiments have been tried over the year, to iron the tape, but to varying success. Sometimes the process also further ruins the tape, so it's a final attempt to re-capture only. Not the first-time capture. Video8/Hi8 creasing affects are far worse than VHS-based formats. |
Thanks I thought as much, Sadly :depressed:

Play the wrinkled section a couple times and then FF or Rewind and leave it buried in the pack for a few weeks. Sometimes this will smooth out the tape a bit more.

Thanks I've tried the rewind fast forward trick and it's not made any difference. How has this tape damage happened?

Physical damage, "eaten" tape usually.
