First off thank you to everyone on this forum. Been lurking for about a month and have learned a lot.

I received a vhs tape in the mail today and it looks like it had a rough ride. The tape arrived with a crack along the back end with a piece missing. Nothing is rattling inside. The seam along the back seems broken and it also seems to run under the label. I've included a few pictures.

Is this safe to play? I just need one play to transfer the tape. Would taping or gluing the broken areas hold up for a single play?

If it were just a crack, I'd tape it and capture.

But you have some missing shards of plastic. Are those inside the tape, or out? Don't guess -- know. The only way to know it to open it and see. Remove any shards that you see. Verify that none are lodged between layers of the tape in the spools.

After that, sure, tape it good.

I have spare blanks solely bought for parts. I'd just replace it, if bad.

No glue.
