Digital 8 camcorder stopped reading tape?
I ran a tape through my Sony Digital 8 camcorder while capturing, and there was a section of the tape that was creased (crinkly) from getting pulled out and the tape lid closing on it.
When this portion of the tape was being read, the picture got really bad, then completely out. Is is possible I damaged the video heads? Is there any way to bring it back to life? I tried cleaning the heads to no effect. The screen on the camcorder remains blue when i play, and the counter does not even run. Thank you.:) |

Anyway these camcorders are not so expensive on ebay, especially not the ones that are digital8 only (and not Hi8/Digital). |
I know the sony cameras can lose picture or generate errors due to the ribbon cables connecting the various parts inside the camera going loose or being oxidised, which can be solved by opening and cleaning contacts. (Though if you try it be super careful as the cables are very fragile.)
Could of course be head damage too. If can play analog tapes it may be easier to see it with them. |
Some gunk is not easy to remove using normal head cleaning, You need a wet rough cleaning tape, Or if you can reach the head use a piece of printer paper with alcohol and press gently on the drum without moving the paper while rotating the drum. If there is damaged you will feel one of the heads is missing or both.
