HDV 1080i transfer to hard drive?
Hi all
I have been given a Mini DV tape that contains HDV footage i.e 1080i. I have a HDV playback unit and access to firewire enabled Macs and PCs. I have saved standard def Mini DV in the past using Vidi (for Mac) and ended up with a file around 13GB size for 1 hour. I think it was a .dv file but I could be wrong. So..I just want to do a straight transfer of the digital info on tape, through FW. FCPX is yielding a lossy .mov capture - no good. Premiere - I have not tried it yet but suspect similar. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might try? |
For Windows:
A program called HDVSplit will pull the footage off of the camcorder as MPEG-2 transport streams. https://www.videohelp.com/software/HDVSplit The preview function is generally broken, so leave it disabled. CapDVHS, despite the name also works with HDV camcorders https://www.videohelp.com/software/CapDVHS For Mac: FCPX should be able to capture HDV directly to a ProRes or Apple Intermediate compressed video. Apple used to provide a developer tool called "DVHSCap" to capture the raw transport streams like the Windows tools above. I don't know if it works with recent releases of MacOS X though. There is a newer application called "AVCVideoCap" that will likely work on newer versions of OS X available here: https://www.cuttingcords.com/home/20...ox-using-a-mac |
