Hello!

I'm trying to go from capturing with VirtualDub (720x480 .AVI) to Avidemux (2.6.5) MPEG to be authored to a DVD

I'm following your workflow here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/vid...idemux-pt1.htm

My .AVI is interlaced but when I check the mpeg after it's done encoding it's progressive even though I checked "interlaced" in the settings.

I attached my MediaInfo for before and after.

I'm probably missing something simple.

Thanks!

For MPEG-2 SD conversions, use Avidemux 2.5.x, not 2.6/2.7.

The new versions are best at H.264, not so much MPEG-2. I've seen oddities. Not sure if it's caused by Avidemux, or the underlying ffmpeg.

Did you read my guide?

Yes! I think I found success with Avidemux version 2.5.4... Getting the interlaced scan type in my MPEG2 finally. My Media Info screenshots are attached above from before and after, VirtualDub (720x480) Interlaced .AVI to Avidemux Interlaced .MPEG2

And yes, your guide was helpful! Thanks!

More likely something with Avidemux, recent command-line ffmpeg still encodes interlaced mpeg2 fine, I doubt there's been much that has change in ffmpeg's mpeg2 encoder in the last 10 years, so there probably isn't any advantage to using a newer avidemux for this specific purpose anyhow.
