Hello,

I am in the process of capturing VHS home movies with Huffyuv AVI. Then I am processing them with Virtualdub filters (as necessary). The encoding software I will be using is MainConcept Reference. What I want to know is what settings I should use to obtain the highest quality encodes from VHS sources. There are MANY settings and options and I don't know what many of them do. I am using Double Layer DVDs.

What are the best settings to use in MainConcept Reference for VHS sources? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Could anyone help with this? I am sure that some of the settings would be dependent on the source, but I would think that for VHS sources there would be certain consistent settings and tips for getting the highest quality encodes, right?

I'll need to know this first: Did you capture/restore as 720x480 or 352x480 video resolution?

720x480. I didn't really think about it, but is there a reason to capture and restore at 352x480?

Thanks for your help.

This is almost going to require writing a new guide. To speed this up for your situation, why don't we do it the other way around? Post some screen shots of your various MainConcept Reference encoding tabs/panels. And then I can tell you what is right/wrong, or could be tweaked. That should get it moving.

Thanks.

I've made note that a guide is needed, but it's honestly going to be a little while. Backed up right now, well into September.
