How would you remove any black bars along the egde of the window (screen) before backing up a dvd?

Why? Most of them are in the overscan and not seen on tv anyway...

Or is this a larger problem that is seen on tv?

Well, no. On my pc screen I can see the black lines on each side of the monitor, but on the tv screen, their gone.
So, I guess it really isn't a problem.

If this annoys you on the PC, most DVD player software will allow you to zoom in a bit.
