Blank out scenes help

i have an mpeg, at the end of which there is an error.

as the show ends, what we see is the start of an advert.
but the audio is that of the show!

the audio is part of a "blank" scene.

so i need to replace those few seconds of the advert with blanks.

what is the easiest way to do this?
what tools do i need?

the only way i know of doing this is to cut that segment out.
create a 1 millisecond blank screen.
copy & paste that blank screen again & again until it fills the 2 seconds worth of the audio.

then merge these two together and tag on the end of the show.

suely there must be a simpler way of blanking-out a mpeg?

So there is more video than audio?

lets say there are 3 secs of video and audio.

the video is of the start of an advert.
the audio is still from the cartoon.

after these 3 secs, the advert carries on with its own audio.

luckily all i need is to somehow generate 3 secs of blank / black screens to match the 3 secs of audio.

so, how do i easily generate 3 secs of blank video?

You don't need to generate anything new at all. You need to individually cut out what you don't want. I assume you'd cut out the ad video, and leave everything else alone.

I had some glitches in a recent project myself, where some video frames repeated themselves (45 frames, to be exact, ~1.5 seconds total). It caused audio to lose sync. I had to demux the audio and video, then drop them both into Womble MPEG Video Wizard. I went and cut out the extra video frames, and then previewed the remaining a/v on the timeline, to be sure there was no more sync issue.

That's all you have to do. You just cut out what isn't needed, don't add more.
