Ripping DVD closed captions (line 21 style)

Easiest way? I found a way with CCExtractor but it was painful to use.

What's the goal here?
There are some methods that extract closed captions into subtitles, using subtitle programs, but I've only read about it -- never done it.

Guessing these are homemade DVDs too, not retail? Never heard of retail having line 21 captions.

It seems that retail discs that use the "[CC]" logo on the back cover typically have line 21 captions instead of or in addition to subtitles. There are even a few Blu-rays that have them!

I use CCExtractor; I'm curious what you found painful about it, premiumcapture.
