Hi Everyone,

I am running Windows 8 64bit. I have been able to install standard HuffYUV without issue, following the instructions in this thread: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...l-huffyuv.html

I have been attempting to install HuffYUV MT and have been unsuccessful. The copy I downloaded from DigitalFAQ will not extract. I noticed that the file name was missing the "." before the "rar" file extension, so I manually added it, but the issue persists. I am using 7-zip to extract the archive. I downloaded the file directly from DigitalFAQ here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...lters-pre.html

Would site staff check this file and upload a current copy of HuffYUV MT in the download thread for the HuffYUV codecs if the file is indeed corrupt?

I downloaded HuffYUV MT from VideoHelp instead (hoping it is a reliable source as well). I followed the instructions on HuffYUV installation, but altered the file path to point to my HuffYUV MT .inf and have attempted to install HuffYUV MT to both the SysWow64 and System32 folders. Both attempts failed. I have ensured that I am running the Administrator command prompt. I am using Windows 8 x64. Any suggestions?

Well, given how Windows 8 is a terrible OS for video work, I'm not surprised. See also: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/news...indows-vs.html

I just downloaded the Huffyuv multithreaded RAR file, and unRAR'd it, and it was not corrupt.

To be completely honest, it's not a very useful codec, and I've stopped using it. The speed gains were minimal, and it was more a nuisance than anything else in the age of Windows Vista 64 and beyond OS. The whole 64-bit install issues, and all.

Can you use a Windows XP system -- or at least a Windows XP VM inside VirtualBox? That would probably be easier than trying to make Windows 8 cooperate.

Hi LS! Thanks for the reply.

Windows 8.1 definitely has user interface issues. I have been forcing myself to use as experiential training for applications in my workplace. The underlying OS is actually more efficient and robust than Windows 7 (my preferred version of Windows), but the interface is very inefficient and cumbersome. However, since I already relied so heavily on keyboard shortcuts and tools like "Launchy" to run applications the interface issues have been minimized. In either event, the underlying file structure of Windows 8 is identical (as far as I know) to Windows 7. I have not encountered any application that worked under Windows 7 fail to install and function properly under Windows 8. That is why I thought HuffYUV MT would work without issue.

I can run Windows XP in a VM, but I am intending to transcode 40GB+ files from HuffYUV MT to standard HuffYUV. So, I would like to minimize the overhead and system lag during encoding. I would avoid using HuffYUV MT all together, but I have a few files that were captured by someone else into HuffYUV MT and I don't have the option to capture again to standard HuffYUV. To my knowledge, I can't transcode them to standard HuffYUV without the MT codec installed first.

Did you use WinRAR, specifically, to extract the codec archive? I will try some other utilities, but I have not encountered a .rar archive that 7-zip would not handle.

I/O will be the main lag anyway, so the CPU hit from using a VM with XP won't matter. The CPU is not the major resource (bottleneck) for lossless encoding. So I would still suggest the XP VM method as best here.

I use WinRAR.
