Deconstructing what QTGMC does to edges in progressive mode?

I've been trying to analyze what QTGMC is doing to edges when running in progressive mode, but I'm not making much progress. I like what it does to the fine edge noise, but not what it does to motion blur areas, but I'm struggling to figure out which plugins QTGMC is using to produce the effect that I like. Even when using "show settings" and going thru them one at a time to isolate the effects, I'm not making much headway since I'm thinking it's a combination of the masks and functions.

In particular, note the area around the letters on the microphone label. These are the raw clip, just IVTC, and IVTC+QTGMC.

AVISource("edges-clip.avi")
#ConvertToYV12()
tfm(order=1, mode=6, pp=6, field=1, slow=2)
TDecimate()
# InpuType=progressive source
#QTGMC(preset="slower", TR0=2, InputType=1)

Remember that QTGMC also involves some NR.
I'm also not fond of slower, it enables too much, often results in softer output.

Yes, I narrowed down what I was seeing to noise reduction along edges. However, I don't know enough about how the masking works to confine it to just edges and leave larger areas and motion blurred areas unchanged.
