Image stabilization filter, VirtualDub, VHS, 8mm?

Please forgive me as I'm sure that there is a discussion about this on the site. I have been unable to find it.

What is the best image stabilization for an early 8mm video. I'm using Virtual Dub. Is there a link to a plug-in or filter? Lord Smurf had answered this, but I can't find it!

Sorry again as ridiculous as this may sound, I'm new to blogging.

The image stabilization that I'm looking for is the shaking from the person holding the camcorder back in 1986. The data or video transfer is great.

Hardware best. But it only stabilizes the as-shot footage.

To stabilize stable footage (meaning signal stable, content is not), then Mercalli is like magic. Avisynth and VirtualDub methods are rudimentary, almost caveman-like in comparison.

If you want to see a sample of Mercalli in action, upload a clip for me. Leave it interlaced, a longer clip is preferred, as MPEG or H264 attachment. Not lossless for this example.

I have Mercalli and it is really great software. It does one thing, and does it very well.

Virtualdub Deshaker is a free option, though I would assume (although I haven't used Mercalli myself) that it's not quite at the level of Mercalli.

Mercalli

Which version of Mercalli for VHS transfers, or what file type should I save a VHS transfer for Mercalli to render.

Right now, I have the VHS deinterlaced and saved as an AVI file using Lagarith Lossless as the codec. I did this with Virtual Dub.

Thank you!!!
