I ran a test with a test chart graphic in Virtualdub. I output it using Lagarith as an avi. I placed the render back into Virtualdub and rendered it again. I did this 5x. The luminance looks pretty good, but the chroma shifts left with every render.

Is this normal?
Is there a correction filter?
Is this because of 4.2.2 rather that 4.4.4?

I did the same test in Vegas Pro and it shifted more.

It's probably due to multiple 4:2:2 -> RGB -> 4:2:2 conversions. There's a reason we always try to process video natively.

You shouldn't be seeing this if you used Fast Recompress mode though.

In VirtualDub, be sure to change input and output decode modes to YUY2.

Video > Color Dept, or
Video > Decode Format
