I'm wondering whether one would need a TBC if they used an HS-HD2000U to capture 8mm video tapes? I need to capture mostly 8mm and a couple VHS tapes (all non-commercial content).

Only tape playback, it has no passthrough.
The VCR also has line TBC, not framesync TBC. Not the same sort of TBC.

ideal workflow =
VCR with line TBC > external framesync TBC > capture card
