Convert VHS tapes to digital?

Hello everyone, First I apologize if my English is not so clear..
I recently bought a video capture device called Elegato video capture. I want to buy a JVC S-VHS from the 9600+ model in the PAL version To play standard VHS tapes and convert them to a computer using Elegato video capture.
I have some questions about JVC's HR-S9700EU..
Can he play standard VHS tape? Is the quality in SVHS excellent?
And which of the connections is recommended to use
S Video or RGB Scart?

Thanks and I apologize again for my English ..

- Any S-VHS deck plays back VHS tapes, there isn't a reason why not, unless it's broken.
- Quality of VHS tapes in a S-VHS machine using S-Video is better than in a VHS only machine using composite, Image is sharper and colors are slightly vivid.
- Use S-Video (a.k.a Y/C) pins SCART, RGB pins are not wired for VHS, Something like this.

Not more vivid, but rather more accurate.

Consumer VHS decks falsely boost the signal sharpness, which leads to nasty issues with halos and grain. And then color/luma values are boosted, messed with, leading the over-contrasted images. It gets even worse when using low-end capture sticks like Easycaps, as those boost/pump badly as well.

Elgato earned the nickname "Elcrapo" with video. Not a good card.

So which capture device to buy to convert vhs tapes to digital
in high quality?
The priority is to use an S Video connection?
