Select range and offset audio to maintain a/v sync in Virtualdub?

See attached screenshot. Most of my captures have extra static in the beginning and the end and I have been narrowing down the range by setting the start and end offset. Do I need to check or uncheck the box to offset audio to maintain a/v sync? Is selecting the range of frames independent from the audio track henceforth the need to offset the audio as well?

Quoting VirtualDub's documentation:
Quote:

Controls whether the start offset applies to the audio stream. If unchecked, the start offset deletes frames only from the video stream, advancing it that many frames ahead of the audio stream. This will alter audio/video synchronization accordingly.
So you want to keep it checked.
